10th Anniversary at Art Central Gallery

Welcome table outside of the gallery.

We had a Gala at Art Central Gallery on Thursday to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We had live music and all sorts of delicious food and wine for all of the wonderful people who have made it possible for our gallery to be such a success. Most of the evening had standing room only, thankfully we had tents and chairs outside. I am thankful to be a part of this gallery with twelve other talented and wonderful women.

This is a 30"x 40" oil painting of a green sea turtle that I created for the gala. I usually work from my own reference photos, but I have friends who scuba dive all over the world and they were kind enough to let me use their photos. I also painted a red star fish and eel.

I titled this "Lively Otter" and anyone who has tried to photograph one would agree! This otter was at the Charlestowne Landing Historic Site in South Carolina. I always wanted to paint an otter and I really enjoyed watching them frolic and swim. The water rolling off the back was a bit of a challenge, but I was happy with the results.

The Artist Statue

I came across this charming cherub like statue while visiting Magnolia Plantation and its historic gardens along the Ashley River in South Carolina. The figure is holding an artists palette and a paint brush. In the humid climate it doesn't take long for a green patina to form on the surface, but I think it just adds to the interest. This is a 8"x 3" oil on hardboard.

Fountain Base

This beautiful fountain is in Charleston SC. I love walking around the downtown historic homes and finding inspiration in the many secret gardens that can be seen through the traditional wrought iron fences and gates. This fountain has three of these fish supporting it. I really wanted to zoom in on one fish and to also show the reflection in this painting. You can also see the bubbles in the water. This is a 6"x 6" oil on hardboard.

Day Lily

This is one of the day lilies growing in my garden. I brought this pale peach one (along with a few others) with me when I moved to South Carolina from New York. These are such easy flowers to grow and the blooms are large and showy. I like to paint flowers with the light coming through some of the flower petals because it gives such a warm glow. Today it was in the 70's, but yesterday was 90! This is the second time this plant has bloomed this year. This is a 5"x 5" oil on hardboard.

European Eagle Owl Portrait

This is one of the worlds most beautiful owls! It reminds me of our great horned owl, but it has very brillant orange eyes. It is sometimes referred to as a bengal eagle owl because of the mottled orange(burnt sienna) and black feathers. Owls have specialized feathers that help them to fly silently and can be a real challenge to paint because they blend together so well. I really enjoy painting the eyes of animals and I hope you enjoy this! This is a 4"x 6" oil on canvas on hardboard.
